Modern World

This is the final unit for US History prior to the EOC.

Topics include:
Conservatism v. Liberalism
Presidential administrations of Ford, Carter, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama
                Foreign policy issues
                Domestic and Social issues
Effects of Foreign and Domestic Terrorism
Role of the United States in a global economy

Assignments:
Honors US History:  Create and analyze a political cartoon to explain the difference between Conservatism and Liberalism.  It is your choice on which topic to use.

Regular US History:
Create a T-Chart to compare the political ideas of Conservatives and Liberals.  Must have a minimum of 5 items for each side.  Summarize by using a modern example of how they are different in their methods of handling a similar issue.

Both:  Review Chapter 20 by answering questions 1 - 11 on page 478 in your textbook.

EOC REVIEW

We will use various methods to review for the EOC.
Test date:  April 23 - 25

April 14 - 17:  You will do the epats practice to familiarize yourself with the computer-based test.  This is MANDATORY and must be done this week.

We will also take a practice test on paper.  If you are absent, make up for the test is after-school and time is limited.

April 21, 22, 23...We will use class time to review. 

US History EOC Review
This is a great resource and will give you plenty of practice opportunities.

We will also use time to discuss each unit and the standards that should be remembered for the test.

Honors class:  Read and take notes on each topic.

Nixon Administration

Review the protest movements of the 1960s.  Watch the Crash Course video by clicking on the link below.

Assignment:
Regular US History:  Create an annotated timeline of the Nixon Administration.  There should be a minimum of 10 events...the events should include:  1968 election, 1974 resignation, China, Vietnam, Watergate, and détente.  The other events should be equally divided between foreign and domestic issues.

Honors US History.  Create an annotated timeline of the Nixon Administration.  There should be a minimum of 10 events included his election and resignation.  The events should be used to answer the question:  How did the Nixon presidency affect the nations view of government?

You should be able to describe President Nixon's domestic and foreign policy programs.
You should be able to explain the impact of  Watergate on the public's view of government.

Comparing the Great Society and New Deal

EQ:  "Was the Great Society Successful?"

After watching the video, create a Venn Diagram to compare the Great Society programs to those of Roosevelt's New Deal.  Use the textbook (page 374 and 251 - 258) to find similarities and differences.  Honors...minimum 8 items.    Regular...3 similarities, 3 differences.  Then, write 2 paragraphs answering the EQ.  Be sure to support your opinion with facts and documentation.

Honors:  Review the speech and Program documents from the lesson plan.  Finally, read and compare the last two documents using the graphic organizer below.  Then determine which of the articles you trust and answer the EQ using the information given.
